What is bad vegan?
The series covers the shocking true story of famous restaurateur Sarma Melengels – also known as the Queen of Vegetarian Cuisine.
The Netflix trailer illustrates the initial success of Melngailis, an American raw vegan restaurant, Pure Food and Wine, which was the best raw vegan restaurant at the time, and offered a “upscale vegan dining experience.”
The restaurant was so well known for hosting Hollywood celebrities like Owen Wilson and Woody Harrelson that the trailer featured a former employee saying it was a “great environment to work in”.
However, the series will focus more on how her vegetarian empire fell apart when she met a man online by the name of Shane Fox.
At the height of her fame, a mysterious man – his real name is Anthony Strangis – managed to cheat Malingelis out of her self-made fortune by convincing her that he held the key to making dreams come true.
The trailer even shows him promising Malngailis that he and his beloved pitbull will make her and lovable pitbull immortal if she passes a series of tests. Yes – this series is really weird.
The four-part documentary series documents the following months and years in which the restaurateur had to comply with her partner’s demands.
In the trailer, you even hear Strangis telling Melngailis “If I tell you to take all the money from your bank and light it up – you do.”

She is said to now live in Harlem with Leon, her rescue who was adopted from an animal rescue center in New York. However, the 49-year-old is said to have plans to leave the Big Apple in order to work on her memoir. “It’s easier to live quietly out of town,” she recently told the New York Post.
She also told the newspaper that she plans to revive her restaurant business at some point, saying that if there was a “magical opportunity” to open a restaurant of a similar nature, she would “do it in a heartbeat”.
